Onboarding in this context means getting the charger communicating with Tap's charger backoffice. If you are looking for a complete guide for setting up an account and configuring your locations, see our Quick Start Guide.
This guide describes how to onboard the charger via the charger LCD screen.
1. In the Tap app: Locations > connect new charger
2. Select Tellus Power
3. Copy your unique URL from the Tap app or webportal.
4. Follow the below steps on the Tellus touch screen:
Access the Settings Menu
Ensure both charging connectors are idle (not plugged into any vehicle)
On the 5” LCD touchscreen, tap the Tellus Power logo in the centre of the screen
A login screen will appear — enter the admin passcode: 12345611
You will now see the main Settings menu, which includes: System Setting, Basic Parameters, and Network Setting
Set the Charger to Online Mode
Tap System Setting
Find the Working Mode field and set it to 1 (Online Mode)
Check the Device ID field — it should match the ID registered with Tap Electric
Set the correct Time Zone:
0 = UTC (UK winter)
1 = BST (UK summer)
Tap Write to save, then tap Read to confirm
Configure Your Network Connection
Choose one option:
Option A — Ethernet (Recommended)
Connect an Ethernet (RJ45) cable to the charger
In Network Setting, set Network Mode to 1 (Ethernet/LAN)
Tap Write to save
Option B — Wi-Fi
Select Wi-Fi as Network Mode
Enter WiFi SSID (network name)
Enter WiFi Password
Tap Write to save
Option C — 4G Mobile Data
Insert a 4G SIM card into the charger
Set Network Mode to 5 (4G)
Enter APN, Auth Type, Username, and Password
Tap Write to save
Enter the Tap Electric OCPP Server URL
In Network Setting, locate the Server field
Enter the OCPP WebSocket URL provided by Tap Electric
Ensure the URL is entered exactly (no spaces or extra characters)
Tap Write, then Read to confirm
Step 5 — Save All Settings and Restart the Charger
Tap Reset (System Reset) from the Settings menu
The charger will restart (takes ~60–90 seconds)
The screen will return to the home screen once complete
Return to the Tap app. After a minute the charger should appear and you can proceed with onboarding.
