Article Summary

I am a Property Manager. How do I get started with Tap?

We are using Tap to collect payments on our residential block chargers. How do residents get set up?

  1. Let all residents know that you are using Tap as your charger management system.
  2. If you have different tariffs for residents and visitors, you must create a Driver Group and add all of your residents.
  3. Each driver can choose what level of subscription they want with Tap. Visitors can charge as guests (no subscription - highest transaction fee); residents that barely charge at home can use the free subscription (lower transaction fee); residents charging frequently can purchase a paid subscription (lowest or no transaction fee).

What's the best way to manage visitor access for charging at our residential block?

Often at residential locations, you want chargers to be available for residents and visitors, but you don't want to advertise them to the general public.

There are 2 ways to handle this.

Option 1: Open access but hidden from map

  1. In Location Access, select Tap Users.
  2. In Location Visibility, select Only Nearby Users, and choose your Visibility range.
  3. Optionally, link QR stickers to your charger so that people can quickly find them in the app.

This setup will ensure that only people that already standing in front of your charger (such as your residents and visitors) are able to see it in the app and start a session.
Pro: "Set it and forget it."
Con: Technically anyone can still charge at your location if they happen to find that you have a charger. So if you are for example in a very high traffic area it might not be the best solution.

Option 2: Driver Group at Location Level

  1. In Location Access, select Driver Groups.
  2. Select Manage Driver Groups, and add all of your residents to the group using their emails. Each resident will receive an email letting them know they have access to the location.

This setup means that your chargers will be closed off from the general public, but all residents can charge at all chargers.

Pro: Complete control on who can charge at your location.
Cons: You always need to add visitors to a Driver Group.

Tip: when adding visitors to a Driver Group, use the "Auto-remove" option, so that you do not have to remove them manually. Handy for temporary guests at the location.

Option 3: Driver Group at Charger Level

  1. Go to Chargers and select the charger you want to manage access for.
  2. Select Charger Access.
  3. Select Driver Groups.
  4. Select Manage Driver Groups, and add residents to the group using their emails. Each resident will receive an email letting them know they have access to the charger.

Pro: Each charger will be assigned to the specific resident(s) who own the charger.
Cons: This option is the most work to administer.
