Onboarding in this context means getting the charger communicating with Tap's charger backoffice. If you are looking for a complete guide for setting up an account and configuring your locations, see our Quick Start Guide.
Important note on Alfen firmware
To connect Alfen chargers, you will need access to an Alfen account in the ACE Service Installer. You must ensure your charger has the latest firmware from the Alfen website. You will also need to upload one of the below root certificate files based on your model of charger.
1. Download one of the following root certificate firmware configuration files and store it on your local drive (download files found at the bottom of this article):
For earlier generation NG9 models:
For newer generation AHP models:
Each upload does the following actions:
Installs the Tap root certificate
Sets wss://ocpp.tapelectric.app/alfen wired as BackofficeNetworkProfile1
Sets wss://ocpp.tapelectric.app/alfen mobile as BackofficeNetworkProfile2
This means that after installing and performing a reboot, the charger should automatically start connecting with your backoffice. Continue on for complete instructions.
2. Login to the ACE Service Installer with your username and password.
3. Enter the default password of your charger.
4. On the General tab ("I" icon), select Upload Firmware. This is where you will upload the root certificate, to ensure the charger can communicate securely with Tap.
5. Click the "..." icon beside Firmware file location and select the root certificate firmware file you downloaded to your local drive.
6. Click Start upload.
7. Reboot the charger by clicking on the power button in the bottom left.
Always reboot the charger after adjusting any connectivity settings.
8. In case you need support from Alfen during this process, it's a good idea to save the log files from the past few days. They will ask for this. Click the Save icon in the upper right of the logs.
9. Open the Tap app or portal. Navigate to Locations > connect new charger
10. Select Alfen - ACE Service Installer.
11. Enter the charger's customer identification number.
Heads up: make sure to use the charge point ID when setting up the charger in Tap and not the serial number (which often starts with ACE..)
12. After a minute the charger should appear in the list and you can proceed with onboarding.
