How do I activate or deactivate my Tapkey?

Activate your Tapkey in the Tap Electric app for quick charge starts. If lost or stolen, deactivate it immediately to secure your account.

Activating your new Tapkey

When you order a subscription with a Tapkey, you will receive a letter in the mail containing you key. When the key arrives, it is not yet active. To activate your key:

  1. The letter has a QR code printed on it. Scan the QR code to get started.

  2. If you lost the letter, or the QR code is not working, open the app and navigate to Profile > Tapkey charge cards > Activate my Tapkey.

  3. Enter the ID on the front of your Tapkey and confirm. Make sure to include the dash "-" in the ID.

You're all set! Your key is ready to use.


Deactivating and replacing a Tapkey

If your Tapkey was lost or stolen, you should deactivate it immediately and order a new one. You can do this in the Tap app.

  1. Profile > Tapkey charge cards

  2. Select the Tapkey you wish to deactivate.

  3. Click "Deactivate and request a new Tapkey".

  4. You will need to confirm that you still live at the address associated with your subscription. If you have moved, you can update this address by navigating to Profile > Subscriptions > Edit address.

Your old key is now deactivated and we will ship a new key straight away.
