Onboarding in this context means getting the charger communicating with Tap's charger backoffice. If you are looking for a complete guide for setting up an account and configuring your locations, see our Quick Start Guide.
Step 1: Check Requirements
Before you begin, ensure the following:
Your myenergi zappi model has an “H” in the model designation and a serial number starting with 2 (required for built-in Wi-Fi/Ethernet OCPP support).
Firmware is updated to version 5.794 or later.
The charger is registered at myaccount.myenergi.com.
vHub is configured (see Step 2 if you have multiple units).
Step 2: Configure vHub (Multiple Chargers Only)
If you have multiple zappi chargers:
Configure one charger as the Master.
Configure all remaining chargers as Slaves.
Enable vHub only on the Master.
Disable vHub on all Slave units.
This ensures data from all chargers is processed correctly.
Step 3: Connect the Charger to Tap Electric
In Tap Electric
Go to web.tapelectric.app (desktop/laptop only).
Navigate to:
Locations
Connect new charging station
Select myenergi zappi.
Copy the generated OCPP URL.
In myenergi
Log in to myaccount.myenergi.com.
Go to:
Location
myenergi products
Select your zappi
OCPP settings
Select Other / Manually Enter.
Configure the following:
Field | Value |
Backend URI | OCPP URL from Tap Electric |
ChargeBoxID | zappi serial number |
Username | Same as ChargeBoxID |
Authorization Key | Leave blank |
Save and enable OCPP.
The charger should appear in the Tap Electric dashboard within approximately 1 minute.
Step 4: Configure the Lock Function (Required)
On the zappi charger:
Open:
Other Settings
Lock Function
Configure:
Line 1: ON
Line 2: ON
CHARGING: OFF
If CHARGING is set to ON, anyone can start charging without entering the PIN. The PIN will only protect access to the menu.
Step 5: Link the QR Code Sticker
Each public charger requires a QR code sticker to comply with AFIR.
Tap Electric supplies one QR code sticker per public charger.
Link the sticker to the charger using the Tap Electric Charge Point Operator app.
Scan the QR code to obtain the payment URL.
Shorten the URL using a URL shortening service.
The myenergi zappi supports a maximum PaymentURL length of 52 characters.
Attach the sticker to the charger in accordance with AFIR requirements.
Step 6: Enable Commercial Mode
Go to web.tapelectric.app (desktop/laptop only).
Navigate to:
Chargers
Advanced charging station configuration
Read configuration
Configure the following settings:
OCPP Setting | Value | Notes |
CommercialMode | TRUE | Enables commercial mode |
MaintenanceMode | TRUE | Required to retain menu access |
FreeCharging | FALSE | Enables paid charging |
FreeVendScreen | FALSE | Shows payment screen |
StopTransactionOnInvalidId | FALSE | Must remain FALSE because zappi sends a random UID (no RFID) |
OCPPChargeMode | Fast | Eco / Eco+ may also be used |
PaymentURL | Shortened QR URL | Maximum 52 characters |
PlugAndChargeId | Leave blank | zappi has no built-in RFID reader |
App name | Provider Name | Displayed on charger |
Charger ID | Serial Number | Must match Tap Electric |
Charger name | Location Name | e.g. street or building name |
Currency | EUR | Default may be GBP |
Price per kWh | Your chosen price | Use a period (.) as the decimal separator |
Each configuration change takes approximately 10–20 seconds to apply. If an error appears, click Retry—the setting usually completes successfully.
The QR code is only displayed once a vehicle is connected. Charging with an RFID card is not possible, as the zappi does not include a built-in RFID reader.
Step 7: Test the Installation
Verify the installation by:
Connecting a vehicle and confirming the QR code appears on the charger display.
Scanning the QR code and confirming it opens the correct payment page.
Starting and stopping a short charging session.
Confirming the session appears in the Tap Electric dashboard.
Verifying the tariff and settlement information in the dashboard.
